Waffles – Delicious for Dessert, Breakfast, or as a Snack
A few minutes, and a few store cupboard ingredients, that’s all it takes to make a platter of waffles.
First of all you need to choose a recipe.
You might try plain waffles, spicy waffles, vanilla flavoured waffles, or waffles flavoured with lots and lots of chocolate.
Once you’ve chosen your recipe, and made your batter, you’ll need to heat up your waffle iron and start cooking!

Adding Batter to your Waffle Iron
You need to make sure that you don’t over fill your waffle iron.
If you add to much batter it will escape from the sides.

  • don’t forget to preheat your waffle iron
  • stir your mixture before adding it to the iron
  • pour your batter on to your waffle iron carefully  – using a ladle will make this easy
  • start by pouring some mixture in to the centre of the iron
  • it will spead out as you pour
  • stop adding batter before the waffle iron is full
  • as it cooks the batter will spread out even more

Cooking your Waffle
This is very quick, it only takes a few minutes.

  • cook on one side, then turn your waffle iron over, to cook the other side
  • different recipes and waffle irons may require different times
  • you could try one minute on the first side
  • followed by 2 minutes on the second side
  • then make whatever minor adjustments are neccessary
  • open the waffle iron and remove the waffle with a fork

Cooking more than one Waffle
Don’t forget to keep your waffle iron hot.
Stir the mixture, each time, before ladling it on to the iron.

  • keep your waffle iron hot
  • stir your batter mixture again
  • refill the waffle iron and cook as before
  • place cooked waffles on a cake cooling rack
  • if you stack them on a plate, they wll become soggy
  • alternatively keep cooked waffles warm in a low oven
  • serve as quickly as possible
  • waffles left in the oven for too long become chewy

Left Over Waffles
This is not a problem that I have ever had to deal with!

  • some cooks suggest freezing them, with a layer of greaseproof paper between each waffle
  • other cooks suggest toasting them for breakfast
